Catching the Wave: Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Educators’ Perceptions of Environmental and Sustainability Education Practices
Informing a joint position statement through recommendations on regenerative education.
In 2018, the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) approached the Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE) and the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE) to write a position statement about environmental education. The purpose of a position statement is for use in advocacy work.
To canvas members’ perceptions of environmental education an anonymous survey was sent out to all members of the three associations. Then, at each of the association’s conferences that year, a workshop was run to canvas delegates’ ideas about environmental education.
This research report presents our findings about how Australasian environmental educators practise environmental education. Based on our research, the report contains recommendations for how we think our associations should advocate for environmental education.

NZAEE and AAEE welcome your feedback on the report as we co-design a position paper. Please contribute your responses to this 6 question survey, which will be open until 11 July.
