Experiencing Birds in your Green space

Experiencing Birds in your Green space
Use this Department of Conservation resource to experience birds in your school grounds or another local green space.

It has been developed in collaboration with Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research, and promotes the NZ Garden Bird Survey (which is in late June each year).

Click on the link provided above to download the resource as a PDF and explore other related resources.

Using this resource students will:

  • gather and interpret data about birds living in a local green space
  • identify and learn about key native, endemic and introduced birds
  • begin to understand how birds are part of a wider ecosystem.

Experiencing Birds in your Green Space is part of the Exploring Local Nature series, to encourage primary and intermediate students to go outdoors, explore and connect to a local green space.
