As a topic, estuaries have the potential to combine conceptual scientific understanding, cultural awareness and thinking about socio-scientific issues.
This article uses Science Learning Hub resources to suggest four planning pathways as starting points for contextual-based learning:

- Human impacts on estuaries
Each pathway includes links to relevant videos, interviews and case studies from Aotearoa, with a focus on Māori perspectives and restoration work.
