Kōanga Spring invites us to notice and celebrate the changing seasons

As the days start to get longer and warmer we can get outside to learn and take action for te taiao, with events such as Mental Health Awareness Week, Recycling Week, Outdoor Classroom Day and World Soil Day taking place in Term Four.

Week 1

October 6 - 12 Mental Health Awareness Week

Sparklers have lots of activities on their website that use nature to help improve wellbeing for ākonga.

Week 3

October 20 - 26  Recycling Week

Visit the website to find resources and more details about this week of waste reduction, with a different challenge and focus each day.

Play Week run by Sport NZ also takes place during the third week of term.

Week 5

November 6  Outdoor Classroom Day

This international event is a great excuse to take learning outside, but you don't have to be restricted to this one date! Click on the link above to find resources and register your centre or school if you're planning to take part.

Week 9

December 5  World Soil Day

Garden to Table has produced this free taster resource: The Invisible World of Soil

The annual Bug of the Year competition run by the Entomological Society of NZ also starts in December and runs through the summer, with voting finished around mid-February.
