Explore the wetlands of the Wairarapa | Torotoro ngā repo o te Wairarapa
Wairarapa Glistening Water website is provided to help build a deeper connection to the diverse and beautiful repo (wetlands) of the Wairarapa in the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. It was co-designed by Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa and researchers from the SpatialThink lab at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
Drawing on mātauranga Māori, Indigenous science, and Western science, the website weaves together strands and layers of kōrero (stories) from different wetlands to uncover meaning and develop understanding.

Visit the ‘Education Resources’ section of the website to download the document with suggestions for using the resources on the website in teaching activities. Though the document is primarily aimed at primary and high school teachers in Aotearoa New Zealand, the Wairarapa Glistening Water resources are also suitable for other age levels and audiences worldwide.
The document is organised by subject areas, with curriculum links (including links to Te Mātaiaho refreshed social sciences), NCEA links (including new Level 1 standards for 2024) and example learning activities provided for each subject.
World Wetlands Day (February 2nd) is highlighted at the end of the document, as the Wairarapa Glistening Water resources can effectively by used in education around this event.
