As teachers we have a role in offering tamariki experiences and supporting them to gain knowledge and understanding of the environment as it relates to them. Events in recent years have shown us the importance of sourcing locally grown food as supply chains break down. Engaging tamariki in regular gardening experiences helps them to connect with where their food comes from and provides them with knowledge and skills that they can take home and into the wider community.
