Kiwi Conservation Club (KCC)
The Kiwi Conservation Club is the kids section of Forest & Bird and aims to encourage New Zealand kids to enjoy, empathise with and understand the New Zealand environment and the plants, animals and insects that call it home. We produce the Wild Things magazine 5 times a year which presents information on topics such as Marine Reserves, Wetlands, Rats, Native Birds and Night Time. Global Focus Aotearoa
Global Focus Aotearoa provides information and education on on global and development issues. They create primary and secondary school magazines and teacher resource kits that provoke critical thinking and make learning fun. Focused on a variety of global issues, both the resources and magazines include different activity styles to cater to a range of learning needs. Resource kits are tried out in Aotearoa New Zealand classrooms, and teacher and student feedback is considered in the production of all our materials. All resources are also linked to the New Zealand curriculum.

Global Issues Magazine
Environmental Monitoring and Action Project (EMAP)
The Environmental Monitoring and Action Project (EMAP) is a national environmental education programme funded by the Ministry of Education under its LEOTC fund. A range of resources to help schools report on the health and/or assess aspects of their local environment in areas such as hydrology (water), atmosphere (weather) and soils are available. These include videos, curriculum planners, ID cards, stickers and more. Nga Manu Nature Reserve
Nga Manu offers free to download study sheets and power points on a range of environmental subjects available at http://www.ngamanu.co.nz/. Also, for anyone that requires images of flora and fauna our Nga Manu has the http://www.ngamanuimages.org.nz/ website that has a range of free to download images of flora and fauna for students and teachers.
Take Action for Water - Greater Wellington Regional Council
Take Action for Water is an integrated teaching and learning programme for Year 5-8 students. It addresses issues relating to stream health and aims to empower students to take action for the environment. It is free to all primary and intermediate schools in the Greater Wellington region. The programme scaffolds new learning for students over the course of a term and covers native ecosystems, human impacts, an explore day to a local stream and an opportunity for students to take action over an environmental issue.
The programme includes a complete resource kit, facilitator support and funding to cover the bus for the explore day and $300 for Take Action projects.

Department of Conservation - Poneke Area
The Poneke Area of the Department of Conservation has site based education resource kits. All these kits provide pre-visit, post-visit and on-site activities interwoven with sustainability education and designed to fully engage kids as they explore the areas. - The Matiu/Somes Island environmental education kit includes curriculum linked activities focussing on ecology, conservation and restoration, history and people and the island today. To book kits contact the Wellington Visitor Centre on 04 4708595, wellingtonvc@doc.govt.nz
- The Rimutaka Forest park environmental education kit explores cultural sites, native bush, wildlife habitats, river catchments, mountain ranges and more in Rimutaka Forest Park. For the kit, contact the Poneke Area Office on 04 472 5821.
- Wellington's Seascape Mural environmental education resource is based around the seascape mural at Wellington's Oriental Bay and is designed to develop understanding of conservation issues in the marine environment. Available by website download.
Waste Minimisation Support for Schools In Porirua City
Trash Palace Waste Minimisation Education Programme (for Porirua Schools)
The Trash Palace Education Centre has developed a zero waste education programme specifically for schools and children. The teaching focuses on the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and the three key concepts of environmental education: sustainability, personal and social responsibility and interdependence.
A typical day schedule includes:
- A short trip up to Spicer landfill* and tour of Trash Palace
- * Please note that landfill visits are at the discretion of the landfill manager and may be cancelled at short notice if circumstances require it. If a cancellation occurs a suitable replacement activity will run in that part of the programme.
- A stimulating workshop at the purpose built Education Centre on site
- Learning activities to support on-going action at your school
A follow-up visit to your school to support the on-going action at your school is also part of the programme.
Limited funded places in the Education Programme are available to Porirua Schools. The Programme is available to schools outside the Porirua area (subject to availability) but fees will apply.
Enviroschools Programme
Enviroschools is a national programme that aims to create a whole school approach to environmental education. Schools are supported to become more sustainable and are rewarded when they reach a level of achievement.
There are currently 587 Enviroschools nationally, including the following six Enviroschools in Porirua City: Glenview School, Katoa Kindergarten, Plimmerton School, Porirua School, Pukerua Bay School and Titahi Bay School.
Other Waste Minimisation Support for Schools
Recycling, composting and worm-farming support for schools is available, upon request and subject to availability.
